Flames of No Return Chapter 2

Still not super long, but I'm just setting up the scene here…

         Flames of No Return Chapter 2.
         Meeting Arc: This Could be a Problem

They ran into the observation room, which served as a cell for Todd. He was easily six-foot-four, with an interesting starburst tattoo centered on his left eye. Persephone looked at the crumpled figure, convulsing on the floor and made her way over to the Wraith.

"Todd, this is Doctor Keller, can you hear me?" she asked, rolling him onto his back and ignoring the glare the real Keller gave. "He's having a seizure."

The doctors stood aside and watched as his fit stopped, and then helped the Marines hoist the unconscious Wraith onto a gurney. Persephone shifted her weight from foot to foot while Todd was put into recovery position then rolled him off to the infirmary.

"Right, lets get an x-ray and CT scan."

"We have something better. Don't you have your own name Sony?" Jennifer replied, cocking an eyebrow.

Persephone stared her down, smiling inwardly at how easy it was to stop her best friend asking questions with the right stare. She had the nagging feeling that the Wraith wouldn't be too happy with a stranger that knew so much about them, so Jennifer would get all the glory because Todd already knew her. At least, she would get it at first.

"What do you think is wrong with him? He collapsed when he was hungry last time…" Jennifer asked on the way to the hospital wing.

"Dunno, he could have developed epilepsy."

"A Wraith with epilepsy?"

"You never know, the scans will tell us what's wrong."

"I see a medical-mystery, worth 100 points!" she clapped her hands.

"Enough with the points! He's my patient anyways…" Persephone smiled smugly.

"Sony!"

They walked in silence the rest of the way and Todd was quickly moved onto the Ancient scanner. He chose to wake up then.
"Where am I? Who are you?" he growled softly at Persephone.

"Dr Gaius, I'm a surgeon. You're in the infirmary because you had a seizure, we're about to do a scan to see why."

He closed his eyes as the machine rumbled to life and the scan appeared on a nearby screen. Persephone and Jennifer exchanged worried looks.

"Is that a tumour?" Jennifer whispered.

"Yeah, can the scanner show if it's malignant or not?"

Dr Keller pressed a button on the display and a head MRI showed up. They both gasped.

"It's definitely a malignant brain tumour."

"All of it?"

Persephone nodded solemnly. "It's probably metastasized by now."

They looked sadly at Todd, who cocked an eyebrow. This made him look very odd, as he didn't have any eyebrows.

"What!"

Nobody answered him.

"What is wrong with me?"

"You have stage four cancer, but in all likely-hood you will be okay, what with all this new technology and your natural healing abilities. It's not the cancer that worries us, it's why you have cancer." Persephone said slowly.

"Excuse me doctors, Mr Woolsey wants to see Dr Keller," a Marine informed.
Jennifer made 'I'll be back' signs and went out the door.

"What exactly is wrong with me, Dr Gauis?"

She took out her notebook and drew a complex diagram of the human body and explained what happened. Then, to make it clearer for Todd, she drew a Wraith and showed him why he shouldn't have gotten sick. "It will kill you if we don't get rid of it. You'll need chemotherapy, lots of surgeries, and above all a support system. If you don't then I can't operate."

"Why not? It's not like I have any friends here."

"I'm legally not allowed to. It only has to be one person and they don't need to be friends with you, but they need to be supportive and to trust you at least a bit. Think about it, and press this button when you've come to a conclusion."

She went to get lunch, leaving Todd to choose the only logical person.
